Differentiation Station Summary Assignment
How will I use the resources from my colleagues to help implement the principles of Universal Design for Learning and Differentiated Instruction?
Describe three (3) ways I will use technology?

After browsing and investigating all of the various types of sites that my colleagues had posted, I have found that we all have collected different types of resources that are based on various levels of instruction. Some sites deal with preparation for instruction, others for resources for instruction, and still others look at sites that students are able to access for their learning needs.

I will take each of these types of resources that we all have posted and create my own UDL/DI/technology set of bookmarks that will allow me to access these any time. As educators we are so busy developing our lessons, correcting papers, meeting with parents, teachers, and students that we do not have time to sit and locate large amounts of resources to use within our lessons and to further our course content. By having access to all of these sites I am able to now have a collection of links that can focus on a specific area that I need. I can then work with the new knowledge I have gained from these resources and begin to strengthen my instruction and also my lesson plans along with my overall outcomes/products that I ask of my students.

I am very excited to be able to take the various technology tools that have been described and/or referred to and use them in my lessons. The first type of technology that I want to further work with is the Book Builder site www.bookbuilder.cast.org . Since I am a reading specialist and am always trying to engage students with reading and writing, I would like to use this as a way for students to become "published" authors with this site. There is nothing like having students work very hard and then to have a place for them to "show off" their work!

The second type of technology that I would like to take a closer look at is the Tween Tribune http://www.tweentribune.com/ .It seems so exciting to have something geared specifically for students in the secondary age group to have access to. Having news stories that pertain to students and are of interest to students is something that all teachers need to investigate if they want them to further their world knowledge. I will be passing on this site to many other teachers also so that they can use this in their classroom for current events and for additional discussions in the classroom.

The third and final type of technology that I would like to venture further with is Animoto http://animoto.com/education. I like that way that students are able to use this resource to create their own presentations. It is a nice change away from the use of Microsoft PowerPoint. Sometimes using PowerPoint becomes boring and students have seen and used all of the special effects. I would have the students explore using this and have this as an option to creating their presentations. Some students might like the challenge and adventure of using something newer and exciting

I would like to take many of the technology tools and focus on using them for the students' products, their research and development of their knowledge of the content area concepts, and a way that students can begin to learn more about various technology tools in preparation for them to be out in the 21st century world.
